Wireless Devices Skyrocketing

The number of new wireless devices is skyrocketing, and today there are nearly four times as many gadgets than compared to a decade ago, according to a report by the Federal Communications Commission’s Office of Engineering & Technology Laboratory.

As the wireless market has grown from fewer than 100 million subscribers at the turn of the century, to nearly triple that amount today, device innovation has continued apace, bringing a new world of handsets, remote controllers, services and applications directly to Americans, noted the Report On Trends in Wireless Devices, which was released yesterday.

Another key trend highlighted in the report entailed how new devices are becoming more useful and technologically advanced. Traditional wireless phones typically have one type of wireless transmitter– the cellular link. These days, a growing number of wireless devices have two or three types of transmitters, accommodating Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and other types of connections, the report said.

Noting that new devices are becoming more useful and technologically advanced, the report found the number of new increasingly sophisticated devices entering the marketplace with multiple transmitters, enabling access to 4G networks, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and other types of connections, will continue to provide customers more options.
